I’m an NHS Consultant in Emergency Medicine at University Hospital Southampton and Honorary Professor of Medical Education at the University of Southampton.
Clinical practice is at the heart of my work. Alongside caring for patients and providing senior clinical leadership in the Emergency Department, I teach, write, make podcasts and speak about emergency medicine, education and how clinicians learn.

Grounded in emergency medicine.
I continue to work two clinical shifts each week, including out-of-hours and weekends, at University Hospital Southampton. My work combines direct patient care with senior clinical oversight across the Emergency Department, including leading resuscitation and trauma teams and supporting colleagues making difficult decisions when time and information are limited.
That continuing clinical practice underpins my work in medical education, writing, podcasting, speaking and independent medico-legal practice.

I welcome invitations to speak about emergency medicine, clinical leadership and education. I draw on everyday practice, shape each talk for its audience and leave room for questions.

Making more of medical podcasts.
MedPod Learn grew from my work in clinical education and podcasting. I created it to help clinicians revisit medical podcasts through summaries, questions and reflection.
It helps turn useful listening into structured learning, with tools to support understanding, reflection and keeping a record of development.
Other professional work
I am now accepting enquiries and instructions for adult Emergency Medicine clinical negligence work in England and Wales. Each proposed case is considered against my clinical expertise, potential conflicts and capacity.
